TechTeen360 | El Hombre del Espacio

TechTeen360 | El Hombre del Espacio

We reached out to Leon Malatesta, also known as ”El Hombre Del Espacio”, To learn more about “TechTeen360″ another one of his productions.

TechTeen360 is a 360 video project based in Colombia, that targets young people and talks about everything in their universe and what surrounds them every day.

Leon gave us a comprehensive description of the pilot 360 video, the idea behind it and how he was able to use Skybox 360/VR plugins (now part of Adobe VR) to achieve a great result on his own. Get the story directly from the Space Man himself below.

Leon Malatesta, “El Hombre Del Espacio” explains techteen360.

“To begin with, ever since video production in 360 has became more accessible, we began to study production techniques in-depth, and to visualise the immense potential that is now available, using this technology as a branding tool in the communications universe.

The communications market in general cannot keep up with the rapid changes in technology, and as a result very few brands have clear knowledge of the full potential of 360 content, that they could have with this medium.

Our first 360 video production for O Boticário, the largest cosmetic franchise in the world, showcased the potential: El Giro de la Belleza – a 360 degree makeup tutorial.

Pilot for TechTeen 360

TechTeen is proprietary content that we are launching in search of sponsorship. It is a magazine for young people, that talks about everything relevant to them in their universe and the subjects that surround them every day.

The 360 series has different teenage presenters who showcase innovations in technology, games, cinema and other topics that interest the audience.

Actors are shot on greenscreen, and comped into the 360 scene in After Effects with SkyBox Studio V2, now part of Adobe CC.

It’s a hightech environment where anything is possible. For example, our presenter can be present as several characters, conducting the viewer in a very dynamic and spatial way. In addition to the live presenter, we also work with a virtual mascot: Pix, a stage helper which extends the narrative possibilities, either by creating a hook for a certain subject, or as a visual guide.

The 2D footage of the presenter is comped into the virtual 360 environment, along with CG elements, in After Effects.

More broadly, 360 content producers have to think differently, three-dimensionally, transforming themselves into hybrid professionals, who understand things beyond the traditional script, including UX projects, where the experience of use and the interface, plus the space itself as a narrative character. We are a mix of video and game producers and this process of transformation is absolutely experiential. We have to make the 360 project feasible with turnaround time and budget.

The project was built with SkyBox Studio V2 in After Effects, from building the scene to the final composition, with the inclusion of the character in chroma and the products.

From the beginning of my career as a communicator and producer, I have always been very frustrated with technology and how often our ideas are incompatible with the means of production. My encounter with Mettle plugins was one of those rare moments when everything married perfectly, its platform and its tools work perfectly in an absolutely cohesive, functional way.

All the content available, the tutorials, the support, everything is designed to work and besides supporting you it helps you achieve what you imagined, making the cost of the software a real bargain. My 360 production results are proof of that. Both of the projects on the Mettle Blog, TechTeen and Giro de la Belleza, have been completed by just one person: Me. Of course now that Adobe has acquired the SkyBox Suite, free is the best bargain of all. Thank-you Adobe for making such a smart move.

Thank you Leon! Impressive work, especially when considering you did it alone! We look forward to seeing what you do next!
