Mantra VR | Magnifying Glass Tutorial

The Mantra VR Magnifying Glass effect can be used to help focus the viewer’s attention, and also for unique effects such as a searchlight.  Charles Yeager illustrates some of those in this tutorial. The effect simulates one ore more magnifying glasses of arbitrary size and distribution, with a magnifying power that can be adjusted. 

Mantra VR is a 360/VR plugin for After Effects and Premiere Pro. It is a set of 16 stylization and practical effects that you can apply directly onto your 360 footage, available now for $229.

Mantra VR is designed by the creators of SkyBox Suite, which has been acquired by Adobe, that are now fully integrated in Adobe Creative Cloud.

Effect > Mettle > Mantra VR > Magnifying Glass.

Field Of View

“Draw Background” can be toggled off for a searchlight effect.

Duplicating the “Draw Background” and adding a Blur to your footage creates a focus effect.

The Recursion option zooms the magnifying level of the effect.

Multiple instances on the Magnifying Glass on the same point will focus on a single pixel.
