How to Add Subtitles to a 360 Video in Premiere Pro | CC 2018 and Mantra VR

Charles Yeager (yeagerfilm.com) shows two different methods for adding subtitles to 360 footage. The first method uses the integrated SkyBox 360/VR tools in CC 2018. The second method uses Mantra VR Graphix effect, which speeds up and automates the process. One of the main advantages with Mantra VR is you can modify multiple instances of the subtitles all at once (ie. font, size, scale), rather than have several layered text files that need to be modified one after another.

How to Add Subtitles to a 360 Video in Premiere Pro

Method 1 (CC 2018):

Create a 1920 x 1080 sequence using the text tool for the subtitles.

Apply VR Plane to Sphere on the text sequence. Duplicate text sequences and use Projection Pan to distribute.

Preview 360 view.

Method 2 (Mantra VR):

Apply Mantra VR > Graphix effect to the 360 footage sequence.

Select Projected Layer: Video 2.

Distribution: Circle. Number of Instances: 4. Point of Interest: 1920, 0.
