Mettle Announces Free SkyBox VR Player for Adobe Video Apps on Windows
View 360 VR Content Inside Adobe Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC in Oculus Rift

Montreal – Feb 11, 2016. Mettle is pleased to announce the launch of the new SkyBox VR Player, a free plugin for Adobe® After Effects® CC and Adobe Premiere® Pro CC running on Microsoft Windows. With the Skybox VR Player users can preview their 360 content from within each Adobe pro-video application using Oculus Rift. The integration provides a significantly faster workflow for VR content creators since there is no need to render out 360 preview videos, inject 360 metadata and upload to a 360 video host or app just to view work in progress. Mettle Skybox VR Player is the first VR viewing system that allows users to toggle between 360 views of their content and their After Effects or Premiere Pro workspace. Adobe After Effects CC and Adobe Premiere Pro CC are both key components of Adobe Creative Cloud®.

The new Mettle SkyBox VR Player builds on technologies first developed for After Effects in Mettle SkyBox Studio, a 360 workflow solution that combine plugins and scripts to bring cinematic 360/VR production capabilities into After Effects. SkyBox Studio automates the technically complex camera and composition setups necessary for cinematic 360 video creation, allowing the user to focus on content creation.

With the new Skybox VR Player, all Premiere Pro and After Effects users can now have an easy solution for previewing 360 content as they work. The SkyBox VR Player is installed in the same way as any other plugin. The interface window appears after launching After Effects CC or Premiere Pro CC. A “Hot Corner” enables quick switching between 360 views within the RIFT and the regular workspace. Positional tracking features are enabled, so the user can lean into or move back from their screen, even in workspace mode. Other Adobe Creative Cloud applications on Windows, such as SpeedGrade® and Adobe Photoshop®, can also use the Skybox VR Player in workspace mode.

“By simplifying and dramatically speeding up the VR workflow, the SkyBox VR Player allows videos pros to focus on their content,” said Chris Bobotis, Developer at Mettle. “It’s incredibly exciting to be developing tools for an emerging platform.”

“Adobe customers are often pushing the envelope with our industry-leading apps, and now interest in 360 degree VR video is growing rapidly,” said Sue Skidmore, head of partner relations, Pro Video at Adobe. “The Mettle SkyBox VR Player extends the Adobe video toolset for content creators who need to deliver immersive VR, giving them even more functionality to create amazing content.”

A free trial of Adobe Premiere Pro CC is available here, and a free trial of Adobe After Effects CC is available here.

The SkyBox VR Player is available for Adobe Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, as well as providing in-app workspace viewing of VR content in other Adobe creative applications, such as SpeedGrade CC and Photoshop CC. SkyBox VR Player runs on the Windows platform and only integrates with Mettle SkyBox Studio for After Effects CC. Download available now at:
